January 7th Grade Update

History: We'll be visiting the Cleveland Museum of Art on January 28th. Students received a form to fill out in case the school needs to provide a brown bag lunch. In class, we're wrapping up lessons on the Scientific Revolution and will move to West African History next week.
Sellers Science: We're learning about the periodic table, what the different symbols represent, and how to predict how elements will interact with each other. Students also created posters representing different elements, incorporating their element's unique properties into their designs.
LaCrosse Science: Students just finished our work with biomes of the world. We studied biotic and abiotic features of the regions and then built projects to present and learn from one another. From models to games, sketchnotes, and room decorations, students were all in on their projects. It was great hearing the presentations! Here are some sample visual aids for the presentations:

Language Arts: My class is currently reading The Outsiders to build strong comprehension and critical thinking skills while engaging with a meaningful, grade-level text. As we read, students are analyzing characters, themes, and conflicts, then using evidence from the novel to support their thinking. Alongside the novel, students are writing an expository essay that focuses on clear organization, textual evidence, and strong explanations. This process helps students practice the same reading and writing skills they'll need for the state test, including responding to prompts, citing evidence, and clearly explaining their ideas in a formal academic style.
