November 8th Grade Update

The 8th-grade had a successful first quarter. In science, students are learning about erosion and the differences between mechanical and chemical weathering. In social studies, students are studying Jamestown and starting a new unit on Puritans. They are currently preparing for a debate. In 8th-grade math, Geometry students are learning about congruent triangles, Algebra students are studying congruent functions, and Pre-Algebra students are learning how to graph linear functions. Finally, ELA classes just concluded their mystery stories unit and ended by writing creative stories and creating One-Pager reflections on their favorite story of the quarter.
In addition to the curriculum, the 8th-grade teachers are focusing on the importance of being a prepared and model student through the use of professionalism points. We are addressing the importance of being to school and class on time, bringing materials to class (including charged Chromebooks), completing assignments on time, exhibiting appropriate behavior in and out of the classroom, and showing respect to others. There are quarterly rewards for all students who exhibit these behaviors each quarter.
