November 7th Grade Update

History
Please check your student's weekly syllabus for our current standard and upcoming projects for the month.
Science
Students just completed our chapter on Ecology. We created food webs and drew pictures of what the six different biomes look like. This month, we will study heat transfer. Please remind your child that if there are concepts they need help with, they should ask during class or study hall—don't wait until right before the test!
Math
Students are finishing up chapter 4 on rational numbers, and then they will receive their second math book, which contains chapters 5-10. I've told them they can take their first math book home so they don't accidentally mix up bringing the wrong textbook to class. Please do not throw the first textbook away. When we begin state test review in March, we will reference it. Thank you!
Language Arts
We will be reading about the risks and rewards of social media and working on how to choose strong evidence in writing. Students will finish the unit by giving an argumentative presentation. In Honors Language Arts, we will be reading about the debate over school start times. They will focus on analyzing data and drawing conclusions in their writing.
LaCrosse Science
Students in Mrs. LaCrosse's science class just finished their unit on Energy. To conclude the unit, students are building model pinball machines to show energy transformations. Keep an eye out for weekly homework and announcements for quizzes.
