Mr. Doughty's November Message

Congratulations on a successful first nine weeks!
As we head into November and the busy holiday season, I want to take a moment to express my gratitude for the strong partnership between our school and your families. It's been incredible to watch our students grow not only in knowledge but in kindness, curiosity, and resilience. Thank you for being such an essential part of our school community—we're stronger together.
On Friday, October 31st, all three grade levels celebrated their end-of-quarter reward day. Students who earned enough professional points throughout the quarter were rewarded with a special activity. Sixth graders headed to Skateworld for skating, while seventh and eighth graders enjoyed a movie. We will continue our efforts to recognize students who work hard and treat others with kindness, compassion, and respect—the McCormick Way.
With the recent time change, mornings are much darker, and visibility is reduced during arrival times. I'm asking everyone—students, parents, and drivers—to take extra care when walking, biking, or driving near the school.
If your child walks or rides a bike, please remind them to stay alert, use sidewalks or designated paths, and always look both ways before crossing. Reflective clothing or bike lights can make a big difference in keeping students visible.
For families driving to school, please slow down and follow all traffic signs in the school zone. The posted speed limit is 20 MPH, but I encourage drivers to go even slower during busy drop-off times. Take your time pulling into or out of parking spaces and always check for students nearby.
Your patience and attention help keep our students safe. Thank you for doing your part to make mornings at McCormick safe for everyone.
I'm excited to share that Mrs. Miller recently secured a $5,000 grant to enhance STEM learning through the Ohio STEM Learning Network Classroom Grant Program, funded by Battelle. This funding is part of a broader effort that issued 194 grants this year to develop enduring STEM-based educational projects. Mrs. Miller's application will allow us to purchase robots for her Project Lead the Way class at McCormick.
